Do you want to know about the different genital warts treatments? Take note that there are those which may only be conducted in your doctor’s clinics. Here are some brief descriptions on each treatment.
Genital warts may affect a person externally or internally. If you are affected by the disease externally, you have a lot of options to have your condition prevented. Internal conditions are quite harder to treat. You may be wondering what the common genital warts treatments are. This article will help you have your doubts eliminated as well.
We just want you to understand that there is no ideal cure for genital warts which will eliminate the problem entirely. Most often than not, there are procedures which will only help ease you from the discomfort brought about by the symptoms. In reality, genital warts recur over and over again in your lifetime once you have it.
Most common genital warts treatment
Since genital warts may not be treated in totality, there are treatments which may be used to at least help you with the symptoms. What usually happens is that the lesions brought about by the disorder are removed. The virus, however, may still frequently occur depending on your sexual habits.
For external genital warts, a lot of topical solutions are often recommended for the patient. Actually, despite the different brand labels attached into the treatments, not one is said to be better than the rest. The following are the recommended topical applications for genital warts:
• Podofilox. This is available in a 0.5% solution to help in the problem. You have to remember though that treatment with podofilox is not done daily. For the first three days, you should apply it on the affected area twice a day. After which, you need to rest for four days before you continue the treatment. The process should be repeated for a period of three to four weeks or until the lesions are completely healed.
• Imiquimod. The brand name carrying imiquimod is Aldara. It is also a 5% cream applied to genital warts. This solution requires more period of usage for the patient. You need to apply it on the areas before bedtime at three times a week. When waking up in the morning, wash the genitals with mild soap. Using imiquimod may take you 16 weeks before the lesions will be gone.
Genital warts treatments administered by physicians
While it is more convenient to use topical applications for genital warts, there are treatments for the virus which may only be done by your doctors. The most common examples of treatments administered by your physicians are:
• Topical applications. Podophyllin resin 10 to 25% solutions or 80% to 90% solutions of trichloroacetic acid or bichloroacetic acid are applied by doctors on the lesions and are rinsed after a couple of hours. Weekly treatments are required until all the lesions are gone.
• Injections. The use of 5-flurouracil epinephrine gel is also important in the treatment. Interferon alpha is another example of an injection.
Other alternative treatments for the problem may involve the use of cyrotherapy. Surgical removals may also be necessary. Laser surgery is one of the latest techniques used to remedy the problem. As stressed however, none of these genital warts treatments are considered to be better than the rest.
