An Overview On Genital Warts

Genital wart is commonly mistaken as HPV. While it is an HPV infection, these two are entirely different. Here is an overview of this subject.

Have you ever been so intimate with your partner when it comes to making love?  When was the last time you remembered checking whether you are having safe sex or not?  Are you not worried of several sexually transmitted diseases you may acquire?  Alongside this fact, you may be contaminated with the so-called human papillomaviruses (HPV) or the simple genital warts.

The term HPV refers to a disorder which usually affects the anus and the genital area.  Genital wart is just one of the many diseases associated with HPV infection.  It does not choose who it will infect – men and women alike – especially those who have a very active sex life.  Find out how HPV and genital warts are linked.

HPV and anogenital tract infections

Humans are common targets of HPV.  In fact, there are around 100 types of diseases which are linked to the commonality.  With the variety of HPV types, 40 affect the anogenital tract.  This is quite a very hefty number, so to speak.  Under the 40 types, a lot of people may also have precancerous manifestations.  Cervical and uterine cancer becomes so prevalent in women.

The very same HPV types which cause cervical cancer are also linked to cancer situations in men.  The most common ones are penile and anal cancers.  In like manner, both males and females may be afflicted by cancers from the head down to the neck areas.

HPV and genital warts

The association between HPV and genital warts is due to the most evident cause o the disorder.  They are usually acquired through sex.  Relatively, it follows that the more sex partners you will have, the more prone you become to these diseases.  This is why it is recommended to have safe sex always.

We have mentioned a while back that there are about 40 types of HPV diseases which cause infection on the anogenital tract.  The most common are HPV-6, HPV-11, HPV-16 and HPV-18.  With regards to genital warts, those of HPV-6 and HPV-11 are predominant.  These are the same HPVs which lead to other benign lesions such as mild dysplasia of the cervix.  These HPVs also place individuals at lower risks than that of HPV-16 AND HPV-18.

The last two HPVs are the actual causes of cervical cancer.  This being so, they are categorized as high-risk HPVs.  The other HPVs cause skin disorders such as common body warts.  With the emergence of the so-called skin cancer, HPV-5 and HPV-8 are to be blamed.

The connection between HPV and genital warts somehow make these two diseases interchangeable.  To make things clearer, the former is broader in terms of scope whereas the latter just falls under the HPV category.  This is the easiest possible way you may separate the two together.
