Ectoparasitic Infections: Different Kinds Commonly Linked To Genital Warts

Ectoparasitic infections are contaminations that are brought by small parasitic bugs like lice or mites. • Scabies. This is caused by mite sacroptes scabiei. These parasites which are about 1/50 of an inch in length live in the outer layer of the skin. The mite is acquired through body contact with an infected person or with contaminated clothing, towels, or beddings.
Treatments and precautionary measures for pubic lice
Pubic lice can be treated through the following measures:
• 1% cream rinse of Permethrin that is rubbed on the infected area and rinsing it off after ten minutes.
• Lindane shampoo. This is an alternative medication used for pubic lice. The recommendation for usage is to leave it on the affected area for at least four minutes before rinsing it off. However there are some precautionary measures on the use of lindane such as:
o Lindane can cause irritation up to two months following the medication that is why it is recommended to be used cautiously.
o You should not use lindane if your skin is inflamed or wet because it can cause convulsion when absorbed by the skin.
o Lindane should not be recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers and children below two years old.
• Pyrethrins with piperonyl butoxide. This is also recommended to be applied at the infected area and leaved on for 10 minutes prior to rinsing.
All clothing and beddings of individuals with pubic lice must be properly machine-washed in hot water. All your sexual contacts must be treated for pubic lice and should be assessed for other sexually transmitted diseases. It is advised that you should use medications carefully and avoid getting it into your eyes because it can be very much irritating.
Treatments for scabies
The treatment for scabies includes the following:
• Permethrin (Elimite) 5% cream. This is the normal medication used for scabies. It is rubbed on the whole body beginning from the neck up to the feet. It can only be washed off after 8 to 14 hours. The medication is done again after seven days.
• Ivermectin (Stromectol). This is an oral medication for scabies which is given at a single dose with an intensity of 200 micrograms/kilogram of body weight of an individual.
• Lindane 1% lotion or 30 grams cream. This is an alternative treatment for scabies which is applied on the whole body starting from the neck down and leaving it for several hours before rinsing it off.
